Red or Scarlet Lily Beetle (Lilioceris lilii), Bromsgrove, June 2012

Not a native species.

8mm long, this leaf beetle first established a colony in Surrey during 1939 and has now spread across the UK. The adults and larvae defoliate both lilies and fritillaries so are considered a garden pest.
